Authentic Fine Axe of the Mangbetu with Ivory Grip - 11873

The knife of the Mangbetu people residing in Central Africa was originally used as a weapon of war and also as an agricultural implement, but later on developed into luxury item and a symbol of status. This one is a fine late 19 C.,with a sickle shaped. 10 ½ inches (point to point) blade, very well forged. Massive one piece ivory grips with very good yellowish age patina. Total length 15 ½ inches. Very good condition. A fine early and authentic piece. |
