Very Good Piso Podang, Sword of the Batak, Sumatra. - 11739

The Podang, sometimes also known as Piso Podang is a sword common to Sumatra and specifically to the Batak People. The influence of the Indian Tulwar sword on its specific hilt shape is evident. This very good example has a single edged finely fullered and slightly curved blade, 27 inches long with a 7 ½ inches back edge. The Solid brass hilt is of a typical form with a reverse cup shape pommel. Wood scabbard with white metal bands. Total length 34 inches. Very good condition. Blackened spots on the blade. Lightly cracked and chipped scabbard mouth.
