We offer here for sale this Buckler (hand shield) from the horn of Africa. It is 9 1/2 inches in diameter, 6 1/2 inches in height and it is made from the hide of the Hippopotamus. It is more than 5/8 inches thick and so though that it will stop a bullet from a small caliber pistol. These type of shields were sought after in all the area and were traded all the way through Zanzibar to Oman. Good condition, some damage to the buckler edge.
