Acheen Klewang from Sumatra - 6153

A very interesting Klewang, one of the many variations of the Indonesian machete like knife. This one is probably Acheen from Sumatra, the second half of the 19th C. The blade is straight and single edge, 19 inches long with a 13 inches long fuller just below the spine. The steel bolster is forged in a polygonal shape and inlaid in gold. The hilt is carved of horn in a typical forked pommel. The scabbard is made of light colored wood, very finely engraved. Total length is 28 ½ inches. The blade is a bit pitted with old age patina. The hilt has minor age s but otherwise in very solid condition. It is quite difficult to find these Klewang complete with its scabbard, and every collector of Indonesian weapons / art should love to add it to his collection.
