In the early 20 C. many European made blades and swords were produced and supplied to the Ethiopian army, maintaining the general shape of the Ethiopian classical curved sword : Gurade. This example is made by M.KEVORKOFF & CIE. Deeply curved nickel plated blade 31 inches long, finely etched with floral design and inscription in Amharic. The military style handle with D guard is made of white metal with Bakelite grip and lion head pommel. Tooled leather scabbard. Total length 37 inches. Very good condition. Losses to the nickel plating and blackened spots on the blade. Worn areas on the scabbard.
