Rare Sword and Scabbard Mongo – Kundu - Konda Tribes Zaire - 11453

A fine example of a sword and scabbard of the Mongo people of central Zaire, and specifically of the tribes of the Konda and Kundu tribes. A similar example is shown in African Metal Implements, Hillwood Art Gallery NY Page 36, Fig. 157. It is very rare to find the sword complete with its scabbard. The blade is 12 inches long, fullered in its center. The hilt and scabbard are wood set with many iron tacks and copper wire. Total length 17 inches. Very good condition. Age crack on the back of the scabbard. Minor wood chips. Very few tacks are missing.
