Very Fine Turkish Shamshir Presented to Admiral Charles Napier - 11446


This magnificent sword was presented in 1840 to Admiral Sir Charles Napier (1786 – 1860) by the Ottoman Sultan Abdulemegid I, as a recognition to his successful raid on Sidon during the Ottoman – Egypt conflict. The sword was displayed in the British royal navy college until 1937 afterward transferred to the national maritime museum. Classical shamshir style with a fine Wootz blade, rhino horn grips, gilded silver grip strap and cross guard set with diamonds. Scabbard with original leather cover s and very very finely chased gilded silver locket and chape. Next to mint condition.
