A Rare Pair of Plates and Mail Trousers 19C. Persia. - 11349


This rare pair of mail trousers is Persian, Qajar period, early – mid 19 C. Composed of thousands tiny mail links interlaced with steel plates and dome shaped knee guards. All steel plates are chiseled and inlaid with gold decoration. Mail links are riveted. Inner leather cushioned trousers lined with fabric. Length 39 inches, width 22 inches. Good condition. Minor losses to the mail links. Minor losses to the gold inlay. Inner leather worn and has seen many small repairs. Inner fabric lining is later. This mail trousers are coming from the collection of Jacques Desenfans, a Belgian collector of Islamic art. Sold in London April 2008.
