This very fine Yataghan sword is Turkish, mid 19 C. Very finely forged blade, twisted steel strips in a pattern known as Turkish ribbon. Very richly decorated with gold koftgari work and inscriptions in Arabic letters on both faces. Silver bolsters and grip strap, set with coral stones. Gilded silver grips. Scabbard covered fabric (later) and mounted with big, very finely chased silver locket and chape. Blade 21 inches, total 28 inches. Very good condition. Traces of hammering in the blade center. A very impressive Yataghan sword.
