Fine Moroccan Koumaya Dagger - 11276

The Moroccan version of the Arab Jambiya dagger is locally called Koumaya and characterized by a slender blade, usually dual edged at its lower half and single edge at the top. There is a big variety in the decoration styles and quality of the handles and scabbards. This one is mid 20 C. 1950 or so, a fine exemplar of good quality, with a finely forged 10 inches blade. The hilt is wood with finely chased silver mounts and the scabbard is whole silver decorated with small gold (red gold) panels and flowers. This Koumaya comes with its original baldric carrying rope and another holding the handle tight to the scabbard. Total length 17 inches. Very good condition. A very attractive piece.
