Very Fine Persian Hunting Dagger, Russian Style - 11240

Up for sale is very rare and unusual dagger. The Lion and rising sun – The emblem of the Qajar dynasty in Persia - engraved on the pommel side of the grip and on the blade suggest it is a Persian dagger. The style and dimensions are of a Russian hunting dagger. We do not know if it was a special order for a Russian buyer or just a copy of Russian style hunting daggers (As was quite common in the Qajar period to copy western styles and decoration). Blade with central fullers is 11 1/2 inches long engraved in gold colors and blued. Handle is carved from a solid piece of elephant ivory. Scabbard covered with leather and mounted with a brass locket. Total length 19 inches. Very good condition. Losses to the blade blueing, Age cracks with old repair and minor chips to the ivory grip. A very rare and interesting dagger
