This very good Yataghan is dated to 1289 (1872 in the Gregorian calendar), probably from the Balkan region of the Ottoman empire. Good unusual straight blade, 23 inches long marked with crisp maker mark and richly decorated with silver koftgari work of inscription in Arabic letters. Walrus grips with big eared pommel. Silver grip strap and bolsters. Tota l length 28 inches. Very good condition. Good age patina on the ivory. Grip strap is a later repair. No scabbard.
