The Kastane is the national sword of Sri-Lanka. It is characterized by its short curved blade, usually of mediocre quality and highly decorative hilt and scabbard. Here we have a very good early example, early 18 C. or earlier with a 22 inches well forged steel blade finely fullered. Some engraving on the blade. The grip is carved from dark horn with a monster head pommel mounted with brass mounts. The monster styled quillons, the D guard and the langet are chiseled steel and brass and silver inlay. Total length 27 inches. Very good condition to age. Pitted spots and blackened areas on the blade which was very slightly shortened. Age cracks on the horn handle.
