Fine Heavy 17 C. Kastane Sword Sri-Lanka with Ivory Grip - 11077

The Kastane is the national sword of Sri-Lanka. It is characterized by its short curved blade, usually of mediocre quality and highly decorative hilt and scabbard. Here we have a fine early example, late 17 to early 18 C. with a 25 inches steel blade, 8 mm thick at the base, inlaid with brass inserts. All hilt parts are of great decorative values – A piece of art by itself: The finely carved ivory grip with a monster styled pommel, the monster styled quillons, the D guard and the langet all beautifully chiseled in steel and decorated with brass and silver inserts. Total length 28 inches. Very good condition to age. Very good dark age patina on the blade and on the ivory grip. No scabbard. An unusually early decorative piece.
