Knife of the Mangbetu Tribe - 6100

The knife of the Mangbetu people residing in Central Africa was originally used as a weapon of war and also as an agricultural implement, but later on developed into luxury item and a symbol of status. One of the photos show a drawing from the late 19 C. of Munza the king of the Mangbetu on his crown, holding high a similar knife as a symbol of power and authority. This one is an early 20 C. piece, sickle shaped. 10 inches (point to point) blade, 17 inches total length (tip of blade to pommel). The handle is dark wood bound with twisted brass wires and brass strips. Very good condition, Original blackened color of the blade and very good age patina on the handle.
