Fine Big Size Ngombe “Execution” Sword Dated 1936 - 10873

This sword is common between the Ngombe people of central Zaire. There are many legends concerning the use of this type of sword for execution. Either it is right or wrong, it is definitely a very impressive sword and always was regarded as a symbol of status. This one is the biggest and heaviest we have seen: 33 inches long (compared to 25 -27 inches long of the more common ones). Very well forged blade, nicely decorated and inscribed in Latin letters: M ?A? MOKOZEMA 1936. The hilt is wood, two stages type, very well made and partially covered with brass and iron tacks. The blade base is bound with steel strips. Very good plus condition. Very Impressive sword. It can definitely be used for its horrifying legend. |
