Panabs, Execution Sword, Moro, Philippines - 10809


The ‘Panabas’ is a long, heavy, two handed jungle knife, used by the Moro’s of the Philippines and supposedly was used also for execution. The blade comes in various shapes, (See also: Robert Cato, Moro Swords fig. 55 ). This one has a massive blade 15 inches long, 4 ½ inches wide at the tip. It up-curving with the edge on the down facing side. The grip is faceted and engraved hardwood, bound with rattan .Total length 28 inches. An old label is attached to the handle inscribed:Beheading Ax Mindenen, Col. Barnbridge . Very good condition. A very rare item and an authentic old piece, without repairs or restorations.
