Very Fine Kilij Sword with Silver Handle - 10783


This very fine sword is a Kilij style, early – mid 19C., made for the Balkan market. The wootz blade is 31 inches long with a 10 inches raised Yelmen back edge. The blade is marked with a chiseled lion and snake on a gilded background. The grips are finely bound with silver wire, the cross guard is finely chiseled silver and the pommel cap is shaped like an animal head, may be a lion. Total length 36 ½ inches. Very good condition. Wootz of low contrast pattern. Minor repairs on the silver wire binding. The pommel cap is restored. A very impressive sword.
