Very Fine Wootz Sousson Pata Sword - India - 10769

From our private collection we offer for sale this sword of Indian origin, probably central or south India, usually referred to as Sousson Pata or Sailaba. It is characterized by the down curving blade, much in the shape of a Turkish Yataghan blade and the tulwar style handle. This one is a very fine example, late 18 to early 19C, probably coming from a noble Indian family. 28 inches blade with 2 inches ricasso, forged from fine high contrast wootz (Damascus, watered) steel, with a later added gold inlaid monogram (of the last owner?). The handle is steel with heavy gold inlaid flower on doted silver background. Original scabbard covered with green velvet (later) and mounted with the original pierced and gilded silver mounts. Total length 34 inches. Very good condition. Very fine sword.
