Very Long Firangi Two Handed Sword - 6082

The name ‘Firangi’ (Foreigner) was given to these swords in the 17 Century, as they were mounted with European (Foreign) blades, which were highly valued. Later on, locally made blades in the European style were used The blades were mounted on the ‘Khanda’ style hilt and with the long spike extending from the pommel to be used as two handed swords. This one has a long, 41 inches straight blade with shallow fullers, marked with the Solingen marking of moon and stars common in many trade blade produced in Germany in the 19 C. and sold to the east. Classical steel hilt and guard. Total length 51 inches, probably the longest I have seen. Wood scabbard with black leather cover, probably later to the blade but still very old. Very good plus condition. The blade and all other steel parts are untouched and maintained a beautiful age patina. Very attractive piece.
