Very Good Enamled Moroccan Koumaya Dagger - 6072

The Moroccan version of the Arab Jambiya dagger is locally called Koumaya and characterized by a slender blade, usually dual edged at its lower half and single edge at the top. There is a big variety in the decoration styles and quality of the handles and scabbards. This one is of a better quality than average, with a good 8 1/2 inches blade, The hilt is of the style is known as: Chapeau de Gendarme (The hat of the policeman) because of the shape of the 3 ½ inches wide pommel. The hilt and the scabbard are of highly engraved and enamled silver on a brass background. This piece comes with its original red baldric belt attached to the big side loops on the scabbard. Good condition. Some of the silver and enamle has disapeared but it is still an extremely attractive piece. |
