Sword from West Africa - 6078

This is a very unusual African sword. A straight 16 inches blade with a spatula shaped tip. The handle is wood covered with braided leather strips and the pommel button is steel. The most curious thing is the very short down curving cross guard which is not so common on African weapons, probably a European influence. The wood scabbard is covered with leather with the upper and lower sector made of some reptile skin. The upper most part is missing. Good condition, some pitted spots and areas of damage to the blade and a worn parts of the leather.
