Yatagan Sword from the Balkan - 6075

A 19 C. nice example of a classical “YATAGAN” from the Balkan. The Yatagan derives its shape from very old blades. Its peculiar shaped blade has a down curving blade with reinforced spine, and it is found in many weapons in the eastern world from the West Balkan countries to the far Indian sub-continent. Its eared pommel shape is known from very old days and similar pommels were found in swords from Luristan 3000 years ago. This specific example is of Balkan origin, has a 23 inches long blade with inscription in silver koftgari (worn). The grips with the side ears are carved from walrus ivory. The grip strap and the blade collar fittings are made of silver work set with corals. No scabbard. Good condition. Nice patina to the blade and grips. One of the grips is unfortunately cracked but hold solid. The blade silver bolster has long gone. A nice example at a very reasonable price.
