Fine 19 C. Ankus (Elephant Goad), India - 10492


This is an Indian ANKUS, (Elephant Goad), used by the Indian to guide their elephants. Although it is not a pure weapon, it is always shown in Museum and private collection in connection to Indian arms and armor. It also finds extended use as a ceremonial item displayed in parades and other important events. This one is early 19 C, made of silver plated copper. Top blade and the hooked one emerging from monsters like and an elephant heads. Handle is spirally cut with a ball shaped tip. Total length 19 inches. Very good condition. Losses to the silver plating.
