Heavy 19 C. Persian Qajar Cleaver - 10479

Probably used as a butcher implement but a very good example of steel art in the late 19 C. in the Qajar period. This heavy blade 12 inches long and 6 ½ inches wide, is very well forged, nicely ringing when knocked and beautifully etched with riding warriors in an hunting scene on one side and palace life on the other. Deeply signed maker mark. Steel handle forged in one piece with the blade. Disk shaped pommel. Total length 15 ½ inches. Very good condition. |
