Long Dagger from Sudan (?). - 6049

A long and straight dagger from The Sahara, probably west Sudan. The scabbard is missing but although it is of bigger dimensions than usual, it probably was in the fashion of an arm dagger. The blade is 12 ½ inches long decorated with geometrical design and inscribed in Arabic letters on both sides. The grip is wood known as African Black Wood, with a black core and white envelope, Which is many times mistaken for Ebony, but much stiffer. An old Ottoman copper coin is set at the pommel. Good condition, very nice patina, part of the pommel disk is broken. Very Low Price
