Fine Moroccan Nimcha Sword with Scabbard Dated 1917 - 10213

Up for sale is this fine Nimcha sword from Morocco, employing a very good blade, 31 inches long. The blade is marked ANDREA FERARA the famous 16 C. Italian sword maker. However we can not guaranty that this one is one of his blades. His markings were copied during many centuries and on many blades and it is more a mark of quality for the blade rather than an actual maker mark. So are the eyelashes marks on the blade. The handle is carved from a massive piece of rhino horn with clear fibrous structure set with chiseled silver collar. The hilt guard and down curving quillons are steel with gold koftgari work. The scabbard is wood covered with the original violet velvet and mounted with long finely chased silver locket and chape, both proof marked 336 and 3, most probably standing for the year 1336 (1917 in the Gregorian calendar). Total length 38 inches. A fine piece of quality in very good condition. |
