Hide Buckler / Shield from Baluchistan - 10200

Rare and unusual Buckler (Hand Shield) from Baluchistan, the homeland of the Baluchi people in West Pakistan. It is 11 inches in diameter, made of heavy Buffalo (?) hide. The outer surface is heavily decorated with engraved brass ornament and with four tall brass bosses, holding the rear handle rings and a leather hand cushion on the rear side. Very good condition. One brass plate is replaced. One small coin like ornament is missing. Minor distortion due to hide shrink. The hand straps are torn. For a very similar buckler see Stone Glossary, page 206, fig. 258 # 18
