Old Arab Sword with European Blade, Zanzibar / Yemen - 10179

A very unusual and interesting Arab sword. It reminds the famous Moroccan “NIMCHA” but although the hilt style is similar, this sword is coming from Yemen, and it is believed to be produced in the island of Zanzibar in the 19th C. The single edge blade is 30 inches long with three fullers, a European trade blade marked with a maker name of which only SOHN are legible. The grip is cut and shaped from a solid black horn. The special design of the hilt is typical to swords produced in Zanzibar, and has a big steel ring forged in one piece with the cross guard and the “D” guard. Total length 36 inches. Good condition. Original age patina on the blade with lightly pitted areas. Chips on one side of the horn grip. This is a real fighting sword and from exotic part of the world. Very Low Price |
