The Songye people reside in central Zaire and are known to be masters in metal work. The men of the Songye families carry an axe made in a very interesting blacksmith work in iron. Open work blade with twisted rods and little human faces. Here is such a nice example. 10 x 9 inches blade, wood haft covered with reptile skin. Very good condition. Good age patina on the blade.
