This Yataghan sword is from the Balakn region of the ottoman empire, characterized by the big wide walrus grips. Very good blade of laminated steel, 25 inches long, very clearly marked with a maker stamp and dated with silver inlay to 289, standing for 1289 ( 1872 in the Gregorian calendar). The spine is finely chiseled on its entire length. Walrus grips with gilded copper grip strap and bolsters set with coral stoned and red colored glass ?? on the bolsters. Total length 31 inches. Very good condition. No scabbard. It is quite scarce to find similar Yataghans with the big walrus grips so complete. Usually they will crack in the center.
