Hide Buckler / Shield from Baluchistan - 10119

Rare and unusual Buckler (Hand Shield) from Baluchistan, the homeland of the Baluchi people in West Pakistan. It is 9 ½ inches in diameter, made of heavy Buffalo (?) hide covered with ribbed black leather on both sides. The outer surface is heavily decorated with engraved brass ornament and with four tall brass bosses, holding the rear handle rings and a leather hand cushion on the rear side. Very good condition. Only the hand straps are missing. A very similar buckler is shown in Stone Glossary, page 206, fig. 258 # 18 |
