The Shotel is the traditional sword of the Abyssinian (Ethiopia). It looks like a huge sickle, with a long blade deeply curved almost to half circle. The purpose of this very awkward blade is to strike over or around the shield of an opponent. The Shotel offered here for sale has a finely forged nicely fullered heavy and deadly sharp blade, 31 Inches long, (point to point) with two central fullers. The hilt is made of Bakalit, in a classical form. . It is probably dated to the early 20 C. Very good condition. no scabbard. Impressive heavy Shotel.
