The swords and daggers of the Baule tribe were very rare and sought after by collectors of African weapon / tribal arts. The Baule people reside in Ivory Coast and Neighboring Ghana and known to be masters of wood work and wood engraving. We offer here for sale a fine knife of the Baule. The blade single edged with a down curving spine, 5 inches long. The handle is carved hardwood covered with a geometrically decorated gold leaf. The scabbard is hide set with red painted shell, which were added only to weapons of highly prestigious owners. Very good condition. Blackened areas on the blade with minor pittings. Minor losses to the gold leaf. Rare and fine article for the lovers of African tribal art.
