Tulwar Sword with Huge Damascus Blade - 6024

A huge Tulwar sword, with a heavy single edge, 35 inches long blade, with a 10 inches false edge on the spine. The blade is forged from Crystalline steel (Indian Damascus wootz). The construction of the blade is very interesting and unusual, called scarf welding. Scarf welding was done in order to weld a hard steel blade to a softer more flexible heel part of the blade. It is a common technique since many centuries and found on both Indian and European quality swords. The welding seam can be seen as a semicircle about 3 inches below the langet. The hilt is typical big steel handle plated with heavy gilded silver. No scabbard. Good condition with small-blackened spots and minor nicks on the edge. Some of the silver cover of the hilt is damaged and partially missing. A real heavy fighting sword of quality.
