Heavy Qama with Wide Blade - 10036

This heavy Qama short sword is Georgian, late 19 C. Heavy blade 18 inches long and 3 inches wide, nicely fullered and forged from laminated steel (The lamination can be noticed in the wide fuller). Deeply marked with a maker stamp on both sides of the blade. Traces of gold koftgari work on the blade. Massive single piece water buffalo horn handle riveted to the tang with silver rivets and bosses. Total length 23 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Good age patina on both the blade and the handle. Minor edge nick. No scabbard. Very impressive. |
