Very Good MANDAU, Sword of the Dyak Head Hunters, Borneo - 9999

This MANDAU (sometimes also called “Parang Ihlang”) is a late 19 to early 20 C vintage with a 19 1/2 inches blade with curved cross section. One face of the blade is inlaid with brass inserts along the spine and on its base. The handle is “L” shaped, carved from antler bound with braided rattan strips, with tufts of black hair on the pommel tips. Carved wood scabbard bound with rattan strips (one band missing) and with a braided rattan belt attachment. Total length 28 inch. Very good condition. Minor wood chips on the scabbard carving. |
