Very Fine Silver Mounted Turkish / Balkan Jambiya Dagger - 9959

This very fine Balkan Jambiya dagger, circa 1850-1880 is coming from the Balkan region of the ottoman empire. Curved blade with central rib, forged from Sham ( Wootz steel of low contrast pattern common to Turkish blades) and decorated with gold koftgari wrk at the blade base. Blade length 13 1/2 inches. The handle as well as the scabbard are made from finely chased silver. Total length 22 1/2 inches. Very good plus condition. The silver scabbard is proof marked with a Tughra ( The emblem of the Sultan in the thrown), on the locket cover and on the silver mouth below it. A very fine item. |
