Turkish / Syrian Saber with Old Blade - 9914

Up for sale is this Saber, with an old Turkish blade, probably late 18 C. The blade has traces of gold inscription in Arabic letters as well as a "Tughra", the emblem of the sultan in the throne. Some time in the end of the 19 C. The blade was fitted with Turkish style horn grips and brass cross guard, and a local made scabbard was made for it, covered with leather (spirally stitched) and mounted with white metal, crudely engraved locket and chape. This was done probably in Syria or in Palestine. Blade length 32 inches. Total length 37 1/2 inches. Good condition. Blade with age patina and some losses to the gold inscription. Grip strap and the brass twisted wires are recently restored. Small damage to the scabbard.
