Very Good Tabarzine, Saddle Axe, Persian, 19C. - 9903

This Tabarzine, or saddle axe is of Persian, heavily influenced from similar Indian axes. The heavy blade is 2 1/2 inches wide, 5 inches tall, forged from good high carbon hard steel, nicely chiseled with flowers and animal images. The 25 inches long handle is wood covered with leather (stitched in spiral stitching) and mounted with two big chased silver mounts. Very good condition. One of the blade corners was cut and straightened most probably to eliminate a breakage of the blade corner and put the axe back into service. It is a very old cut showing the same patina as the rest of the blade. |
