Very Good Persian Shamshir Sword with Wootz Blade and ivory grips - 9827

Up for sale is this Shamshir sword, Persian, late 18 C. – early 19 C. Blade 32 inches nicely fullered with maker mark, forged from Wootz (Damascus, watered ) steel of rather low contrast. Elephant ivory grips and steel cross guard, grip strap and pommel cap. The grips are bound on their lower part with twisted silver wire. Total length 37 inches. Very good condition. Age cracks on the ivory but holds very solid. The left grip has part of it replaced with small ivory piece (Very old repair). No scabbard. |
