Large, Very Early, 17C., Piha Kahetta Knife - 9833


Up for sale is this very early, probably 16 C. “PIHA KAHETTA” knife, the traditional knife of the Sinhalese from Sri-Lanka (Ceylon). It has a single edged large and heavy down curving fullered blade, 9 inches long deeply chiseled and inlaid with brass cover. The grips are beautifully carved from ivory with good shining almost black age patina, set with chiseled and chased silver plaques and chased silver pommel cover. Total length is 14 inches. Good condition to age. Heavily patinated and somewhat pitted blade. Losses to the pommel cover. One of the brass collars of the blade is missing. No scabbard.
