Fine Piso Podang, Sword of the Batak, Sumatra. - 9817


The Podang, sometimes also known as Piso Podang is a sword common to Sumatra and specifically to the Batak People. The influence of the Indian Tulwar sword on its specific hilt shape is evident. This fine example has a single edged fullered and curved blade, 24 inches long with a 7 inches back edge. The Solid white metal hilt is of a typical form with a reverse cup shape pommel. Wood scabbard with horn bone and silver fittings. Total length 28 inches. Very good condition.
