This fine and beautiful kard is of Turkish origin, early to mid 19 C. Fine single edge blade, 9 inches long, forged from fine Sham ( Turkish Wootz, Damascus) steel of clear high contrast pattern. The blade is decorated with gold koftgari work. Brass bolsters and Jadeite handle with a later added silver collar, probably added to reinforce and conceal a crack in the hilt. The scabbard is covered with red velvet and mounted with finely chased silver locket and chape. Total length 15 inches. Very good condition. Beautiful and elegant item.
