Rare and Unusual Persian Kard Knife - 9794


This unusual knife is Persian, late 18 C. one of the many variations of the Kard family. Its heavy blade is down curving with the tip slightly re-curving upward. The blade is forged from very fine wootz (Damascus, watered) steel of very strong and high contrast pattern. The bolsters as well as the steel grip strap are inlaid with gold decoration (true inlay). Walrus grips, cut from the inner core of a walrus tusk. Blade 8 1/2, total 12 inches. Very good condition. No scabbard. A rare item.
