Fine Turkish Shamshir Sword with Ladder Pattern Wootz - 9779


This Shamshir sword is Turkish with an 18 C. Blade and 19C. silver mounts. The blade is 33 inches long, of Persian origin, mid 18 C. forged from good wootz (Damascus, watered steel) in the rare pattern known as Kirk Narduban (ladder pattern). The blade is marked with a maker name in gold inlaid panel (true inlay). The classical shaped Turkish grips are rhino horn with silver grip strap and cross guard. Scabbard covered with black leather and mounted with silver mounts. All silver parts are stamped with a silver proof mark and the Tughra of the Sultan in the throne (Few examples are shown below) . Total length 41 inches. Very good condition. Minor dents cracks and repairs on the silver parts. The wood liners and leather are later.
