Very Good Shotel Sword Complete with Scabbard, Ethiopia - 9751

The Shotel is the traditional sword of the Abyssinian (Ethiopia). It looks like a huge sickle, with a long blade deeply curved. The purpose of this very awkward blade is to strike over or around the shield of an opponent. This one has a finely forged blade, 26 ½ Inches long, (point to point) with a two fullers and a central rib on its entire length. The hilt is made of dark wood (or horn). The scabbard is hide. Total length 34 inches. Very good condition. This Shotel comes with its original hide belt with steel buckle. It is probably dated to the late 19th C., completely original and authentic piece.
