This fine Shamshir sword is Persian, from the 18 C. toward the end of the Safavid period (1501-1736). The very fine wootz blade bears a gold inlaid cartouche with inscription in Arabic letters. Blade length 32 inches. Steel cross guard of unusual 7 inches length and grip strap. Antler grips and steel pommel cap. Total length 36 inches. Very good condition. The grips and pommel cap are restored.
