Very Good Turkish Yataghan with T Pommel, Dated 1275 (1858) - 9720


This style of yataghan with wide T shaped pommel ears are believed to come from central Turkey. This one has a blade of 27 inches long, engraved with Arabic inscription and a date which is most probably 1275 (1858 In the Gregorian Calendar). Horn grips sharply bent side way to produce the 5 inches wide pommel. Steel bolsters forged in one piece with the blade (and used to be covered with pewter which is now mostly gone). Chased brass mounts on wood scabbard with velvet cover. Total length 34 inches. Very good condition. Velvet cover replaced.
