Good Short Sword from Java (TJIKOREH) - 9388

This is a very interesting short sword from Indonesia. It was made in the village of TJIKOREH (CHIKOREA in the modern Indonesian spelling), famous in the production of edged weapons of various shapes. Many blades were done as a special order for foreigners, mainly Dutch people residing in Indonesia. This one here is an excellent example of a mix of Indonesian and western styles. The blade is short and heavy, 14 inches long, with a pronounced clipped tip. It is very finely engraved and engraved TJIKR (most probably standing for TJIKOREH). The horn grip with its brass shell type cross guard and mounts are styled in the shape of a European hunting sword. Black painted wood scabbard with brass mounts. Total length 22 inches. Very good condition. Minor edge nicks.
